The Hawaii International Film Festival: Terry's Advice

Posted: Updated:

More than 200 films from all over the world will be shown at the Regal Dole Cannery Theatres from October 13 - 23.

You can pick up a program guide at your local Starbucks, but the best way to find out what's showing is to visit the festival web site at hiff.org.

There you'll find the complete schedule with descriptions of each film. Most film descriptions also contain a link to a video trailer, so you can sample actual bits of the film.

When you find a film you want to see in the online schedule, you can click to buy tickets and then print them up yourself to avoid lines at the box office.

The festival describes itself as "a fortune of fine films."  That's true, but it's impossible to predict what films will be especially good without seeing them.  The trailers help and you can also look up reviews of the films at rottentomatoes.com or on the internet movie database: www.imdb.com.

Here are a few of the films that look promising to me:

PARADISE BROKEN--Friday, 10/14 at 9:30 PM
a locally made feature film about the dark side of Waikiki.
