Red Cross Heroes-Elaine Albertson

On Saturday, October 15, the American Red Cross Hawaii Chapter will honor nine people and one dog for their contributions to the community. All week long, Steve Uyehara will introduce you to these Red Cross Heroes on Hawaii News Now Sunrise.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow)- All week we're giving props to the Red Cross Heroes. This morning on Sunrise we want to introduce you to the Kauai volunteer of the year, Elaine Albertson.

Elaine Albertson has been a dedicated Red Cross volunteer on Kauai since 2008. She holds several key positions as a disaster volunteer. She is the Red Cross liaison who reports to the Kauai county emergency operations center during times of major disasters. She relays vital communication to Red Cross and other community agencies, and she often uses her skills as a ham radio operator to ensure proper communication is delivered.

Elaine is also Kauai's primary disaster hotline dispatcher, on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a weeK, 365 days a year. She responds to or deploys out Red Cross volunteers during times of disasters.

On top of all that, Elaine is also a disaster instructor, providing training to other volunteer disaster responders, and she's this year's choice for Kauai volunteer of the year.
