(HawaiiNewsNow) - Newman Consulting Services, LLC, is conducting training classes for people who would like to improve their job skills. The program is being sponsored by OHA as well as a few other organizations. It's free to people of Hawaiian ancestry.
Pili'oihana Project
The Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) has awarded Newman Consulting Services, LLC Career Education Business Program © a one (1) year Native Hawaiian Job Training and Job Placement Assistance Grant for the year of May 2011- April 2012.
The goal of the project is to train individuals who are:
- 18 years or older
- Native Hawaiians who are unemployed or under-employed
- Committed to learning the tools and skills needed to ensure quality employment and economic self-sufficiency
The project includes:
- Vocational training
- Internship
- Assistance with job placement
- The Pili'oihana Project provides employers with qualified & skilled employees
Criteria used to determine eligibility are:
- Native Hawaiian
- unemployed or under-employed
- 18 years of age or older
- basic skills competency at ninth grade level
- a positive attitude, a desire to learn, a desire to gain skilled employment and become economically self-sufficient
How to apply:
- call 596-0200 and schedule an appointment to meet with an intake specialist
- complete an application
- submit proof of Hawaiian Ancestry
- take the intake test
- complete a self-assessment and evaluation questionnaire
