Wahine Volleyball Too Much For San Jose State

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The University of Hawai‘i women's volleyball team swept San Jose State on Saturday, 25-21, 25-8, 25-19. The Rainbow Wahine improve to 15-1 overall and 5-0 in the Western Athletic Conference, with SJSU dropping to 6-12 overall and 1-4 in conference.

Jane Croson had a match-high15 kills to lead the ‘Bows, and Kanani Danielson added nine kills and 14 digs. Brittany Hewitt recorded six blocks and Mita Uiato had 27 assists.

Savanah Leaf led the Spartans with 10 kills and seven digs.

In set one, Hawai‘i led 12-5 before SJSU ran off six straight points to cut the UH lead to one. The set remained close but the ‘Bows never gave up the lead en route to the four-point win. Danielson recorded the final two kills.

Hawai‘i had little trouble with San Jose State in set two. The ‘Bows had runs of seven and nine points before winning handily. The third set was arguably the most competitive. Midway through the set, Hanah Blume posted two of her three kills in succession to give SJSU a 12-9 lead. The ‘Bows responded with a pair of kills by Croson and another by Kaela Goodman (3 kills, 1 block) to take a 15-13 lead and pull away for the win.

Hawai‘i next plays on the road at New Mexico State (Wednesday, Oct. 12) then at Louisiana Tech (Friday, Oct. 14). The match against NMSU will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
