Cessna ditches off Hilo, no word on pilot

BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) The Coast Guard says a Cessna 310 twin-engine aircraft with one person aboard has ditched in the Pacific ocean 13 miles northeast of Hilo.

There is no word on the pilot's condition.

The plane was on its way from California to the Big Island and ran out of fuel.

The Coast Guard Cutter Kiska is on scene.

The Coast Guard says they will extricate pilot and fly him straight to Hilo Medical Center.

The 65-year-old pilot has sent a distress signal. The FAA contacted the Coast guard around 12:30 p.m.
