HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow)-Dr. Shanon Takaoka is the Medical Director of Kaiser Permanente (KP) Hawaii's Sleep Laboratory. She talks to Steve about the how women tend to experience more deep sleep and awaken fewer times during the night than men do. They also weather some of the effects of a lack of sleep better than men, according to recent studies. still, men overall say they are more satisfied with the amount and quality of their shut-eye than women.
Dr. Takaoka also talks about some of these differences and new technologies that are available to study sleep patterns. KP is the first facility in Hawaii to use the WatchPAT, a sleep study technology that allows patients to do sleep studies at home. The WatchPAT is a device that is as simple as putting on a watch. In addition, Dr. Takaoka talks about simple lifestyle changes that both women and men can do to get a better night's sleep.
