HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - After serving as vice director of the State Civil Defense for a decade, Ed Teixeira is stepping down from the position. HawaiiNewsNow.com broke the story earlier this morning.
"Ed Teixeira has been a dedicated, hardworking Vice-Director and the State of Hawaii is far better prepared to meet the challenges of any natural disaster thanks to his efforts," said Maj. Gen. Darryll D.M. Wong, State Adjutant General. "We wish him well as he begins a new chapter of his life."
Teixeira's resignation is effective immediately. The State of Hawaii, Department of Defense will be conducting a search for a replacement. In the meantime, Victor Gustafson, will be serving as interim SCD Vice-Director. Gustafson is the current Plans and Operations Branch Chief at SCD.
"With Vic as interim Vice-Director, there will be a smooth transition in our state emergency management and homeland security activities," stated Maj. Gen. Wong. Gustafson has been in his current position for more than six years and had been with SCD since 1996.
