Large tree cleared from South King Street

HONOLULU(HawaiiNewsNow) - A large Shower tree came crashing down on South King Street this morning forcing police to close three lanes.

It happened in front of Bank of Hawaii between Keeaumoku and Kaheka around 7:45 a.m.

A City arborist says it appears that a vehicle hit the tree causing it to fall. The arborist says the trunk had a 'impact' wound and that the tree was healthy.

A City bus was also passing the area at the moment the tree started to come down, the bus was not damaged.

The city says it will replace the tree with another Shower tree.

It took workers 3 1/2 hours to clear the roadway.

There are 181 Shower trees along South King Street and some of the trunks are large and are very close to the roadway.
