WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Some of the world's top chefs are in Hawaii, taking part in the 1st annual Food & Wine Festival.

At the Halekulani Friday night, six of them joined together to feed about 200 guests at a gala dinner.

For a mere thousand dollars a ticket, attendees got a chance to sample lavish dishes created using local ingredients from farmers and artisan food producers in the islands.

"Hawaii is a good destination for vacation. It's time to turn it into a food destination. We have so many local sources of food-sustainable, fresh, and a good variety. It's exciting to have so many local chefs to put it together. It'll take Hawaii to the next level", said Halekulani Executive Chef Vikram Garg.

"I think we raised an enormous amount of money tonight, which makes it more exciting for the cause, the culinary students of Hawaii. Yeah, I'm proud and happy to be part of it", said chef Hubert Keller.

If you missed Friday night's dinner, you can still take part in Saturday night's festivities at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

The $200 tickets will be available at the door.
