Happy Aloha Friday, here's what's happening right now.
Final respects are being paid to a Honolulu Police Officer who died in the line of duty. The memorial for Officer Eric Fontes is taking place at this hour at the Borthwick Mortuary. Our Lisa Kubota is at the memorial and will have live reports for us on our 5 and 5:30 newscasts.
Man, was it a daring rescue by a helicopter pilot today! The skilled chopper pilot gently plucked a stranded para-glider from a ridge line in the Koolau Mountains. Ramsay Wharton has that story for us.
Also, we're learning more about the arrest of Hawaii entertainer, Cecilio Rodriguez a few days ago. We also talk with a Hawaii sex therapist about the case.
And -- it's "Oktoberfest" tonight in downtown Honolulu! Our Ben Gutierrez will be there checking in with revelers, and oh, he'll also have our weather report. He told me that the weekend will be a mixed bag of sun and rain, but we'll get the final word from him tonight.
Those are just some of the stories we'll have for you on Hawaii News Now at 5 and 5:30. Join me and Stephanie Lum and Ben G., tonight!
