WAIANAE (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Medical Examiner has identified the 17-year-old teenager discovered in a Waianae canal as Brian Reian of Waianae.
Police say passers-by spotted the body face down in the canal behind the Waianae Taco Bell off Farrington Highway around 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Witnesses told police Reian had been drinking with friends near the canal prior to the incident. They said sometime between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Reian decided to walk home along the canal. Police believe he hit his head while tumbling down the 12-foot concrete embankment into the water. The Honolulu Medical Examiner performed an autopsy Wednesday and determined Reian drowned.
At this time, police believe it was an accident and foul play is not suspected.
Police said Reian had a gash above his eye, consistent with a fall. Currently, police have classified the case as an unattended death.
