PUUNENE (HawaiiNewsNow) - A large cane fire on Maui broke late Sunday night.
Hawaii Commercial and Sugar Company is battling an unscheduled fire in its Maui cane fields.
According to Maui fire officials, the fire broke between Puunene and Lahaina and charred about 50 acres.
Maui fire officials say HC&S is handling the fire without them.
The fire was under control at about 1:15 a.m. Monday.
According to officials, a second fire was reported at about 1 a.m. Monday in brush above the Lahaina Water Treatment Plant.
Firefighters are working to put out the 10-acre blaze. They say access is difficult since the fire is on the mountain.
