Payback! Swords Defeat NDNU in Five Sets

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Swords won a five set match tonight with NDNU in five sets in front of an energetic crowd at McCabe Gym. The Swords defeated the Argos 23-25, 25-19, 16-25, 25-17 and 15-12.

Three Swords: Crystal Powell (Honolulu, HI/Word of Life), Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) and Poerava Gantt (Kapaa, HI/ Kapaa) led the Swords with double-doubles in kills and digs. Powell had 16 kills and 14 digs, Viveiros had 19 kills and 11 digs and Gantt had 17 kills and 14 digs. Viveiros led all Swords hitting .333 for the match.

Notre Dame de Namur won the first set and after Chaminade took the second, the Argos responded by hitting .429 in the third to go ahead two sets to one. Chaminade responded winning the fourth set and then hit a scorching-hot .391 in the fifth set to earn the win.

Senior setter Kristina Donathan (Honolulu, HI/St. Andrew's Priory) contributed 52 assists and 11 digs for Chaminade, while senior Kristy Inamasu (Kahului, HI/Maui) added 22 digs.

The Swords won the defensive battle with 77 digs while NDNU had 62. CUH hit .224 on the match, while the Argos hit .190.

NDNU was led by Jennifer Jasper and Christina Villamayor with 17 kills apiece.

The Swords improve to 2-9 with the win. The Argonauts fall to 1-14. Chaminade is back in action on October 1st at HPU. First serve is set for 7:00 PM HT at the Priory.
