Man accused of sexually assaulting Hilo school girl released

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island police have released a man booked on sexual assault and attempted kidnapping pending investigation.

Samson Moses Kahumoku, 35, was arrested in connection with an alleged attack at Hilo Union Elementary School early Tuesday morning.

The school's vice principal says the child was approached more than an hour before the first bell.

According to authorities, the girl ran away and told cafeteria workers, who then alerted police.

Kahumoku has a lengthy rap sheet. He was booked on suspicion of fourth degree sex assault, attempted first degree sex assault and attempted kidnapping.
