HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - UH Manoa Outreach College presents the 2011 Manoa Jazz & Heritage Festival with jazz pianist, composer and Grammy Award winner Bill Cunliffe with the Bill Cunliffe Trio.
Cunliffe received a Grammy in 2010 for Best Instrumental Arrangement for West Side Story Medley and has been nominated for three additional Grammys and two Emmys as a composer and arranger. In addition to Cunliffe, the Trio includes world-class musicians Tim Horner on drums and Martin Wind on bass. Joining Cunliffe and his trio on the program will be the Dean Taba Quintet and the University of Hawai'i at Manoa Jazz Ensemble.
The 2011 Manoa Jazz & Heritage Festival takes place on Saturday, September 24, in Andrews Amphitheatre at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Gates open at 5:30pm; UH Jazz Ensemble performs at 6:00pm, Dean Taba Quintet at 7:00pm and the Bill Cunliffe Trio at 8:30pm.
Food and drink will be available for purchase or concertgoers can bring their own picnics and coolers (no alcoholic beverages or glass containers).
A "Pre-Concert Blast," open to anyone who would like to become a Friend of Manoa Jazz, starts at 4:30pm and includes pupus, drinks, entrance to backstage, a chance to talk to the artists, concert ticket and first choice of concert seating, plus a free Manoa Jazz T-shirt.
