Burn victim arrested for copper theft

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man found nine months ago on Kapiolani Boulevard screaming in agony from burns has been arrested.

Police say back in January Andre Pulido cut a live power line at a HECO power vault near the old Hard Rock Cafe, which caused a fiery explosion.

Witnesses who ran to help said Pulido's skin was peeling off and he was screaming in pain.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

At the time, a pair of bolt cutters was found at the scene.

According to officials, there was evidence of copper theft and $20,000 of damage.

Police contacted Pulido via phone and he turned himself on Monday.

He's facing charges of property damage.
