Hunting & fishing weekend in East Oahu

HAWAII KAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Local hunters and fishermen are invited to "Take a Bite Out of Hunger" this weekend.

That's the theme of this year's two-day "National Hunting and Fishing Day."

There are activities for the entire family at the Koko Head Public Shooting Range.

Donations of canned food and money will go to the Hawaii Food Bank.

In exchange, you'll receive an activity coupon good for firearms, archery, and fishing games, and you'll learn how to stay safe while having fun.

"The reality is that firearms can be dangerous, and there is a measure of safety that's required to operate them and be safe and enjoy them, and that's what we do. We make sure that everybody has the skill, the knowledge and has the attitude necessary", said instructor Bill Richter.

The 21st annual Hunting and Fishing weekend continues Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
