WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Expect traffic delays in Waikiki Thursday night as Board of Water Supply (BWS) crews work on Kalakaua Avenue near Niu Street.
The crew is repairing a leak to an 8-inch main on Kalakaua Avenue, which was discovered during their leak detection work earlier Thursday afternoon.
The 8-inch main was installed in 1971.
The left eastbound lane of Kalakaua Avenue will remain closed between Niu Street and Ala Moana Boulevard and the one westbound lane of Kalakaua Avenue will remain closed between Pau and McCully Streets.
Traffic headed in the westbound direction will continue to be detoured onto Pau Street and will be able to return to Kalakaua Avenue from McCully Street via Ala Wai Boulevard.
The right southbound lane of Niu Street between Ala Wai Boulevard and Kalakaua Avenue will also remain closed. The lane closures will remain in effect through the evening until repair work is completed.
