HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Heavy rain earlier Thursday morning resulted in nearly five inches of rain in parts of Windward Oahu.
According to the National Weather Service, the Oahu Forest National Wildlife Refuge rain gauge recorded 4.84 inches of rain in the 12-hour period that ended at 2 p.m. The St. Stephens gauge picked up 2.77 inches, while the Punaluu Stream rain gauge recorded 2.37 inches.
Forecasters said at 9:35 a.m., one of the gauges showed rain falling at a rate of nearly two inches per hour near Kamehameha Highway in Waikane. The rain was heavy enough for the Weather Service to issue a flood advisory, which was cancelled shortly after noon when the rain subsided.
