HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The suspect accused in the crash that killed Honolulu Police Department officer Eric Fontes has been released.

James Dorsey Mancao, 20, was arrested at the scene late Tuesday night.

Sources say Dorsey Mancao blew a zero in the intoxilyzer machine, which means no alcohol was detected in his system.

He reportedly told investigators he fell asleep at the wheel before crashing into the officers who were outside of their vehicles at a traffic stop.

Officer Fontes was killed and officer Herman Scanlan was seriously injured.

Dorsey Mancao submitted to a blood draw, which will be used for drug testing.

Results are pending.

The Hawaii National Guardsman, who had no prior criminal record, was booked on suspicion of first-degree negligent homicide and first-degree negligent injury.

He has not been charged and has been released pending investigation.
