Calif. attorney died on Maui of asphyxiation

WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) - Maui police say the attorney from Northern California found dead near Nakalele Point died of asphyxiation.

Police had waited for the victim's family to arrive on Maui before releasing the cause of death Friday.

The manner of death is still under investigation.

Celestial Cassman, of Santa Cruz, was vacationing on Maui when witnesses reported seeing her struggling with a man moments before her body was found. Gerald Galaway, who was staying with her in a Kaanapali hotel, has been charged with second-degree murder and kidnapping.

Police say he remains hospitalized after jumping off a cliff into the ocean when officers responded to reports of a domestic dispute.
