Man accused of stabbing neighbor with pick axe pleads guilty

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man accused of stabbing his neighbor in Papakolea last year pleaded guilty to a reduced charge Wednesday.

Alvan Kalau, who also goes by the name Kelii Akiona, was originally charged with attempted murder. Under a deal with prosecutors, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of attempted manslaughter and agreed to serve a minimum term of 20 years in prison.

Kalau stabbed a 56-year-old man with a pick axe. The victim was sleeping in his own home at the time.

Sentencing is set for November 23rd.
