Swimmer injured by boat propeller

LAHAINA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A California man was injured when he was hit by a boat while taking part in a swimming race.

Authorities said the 42 year-old man was swimming from Lanai to Maui. He was about half a mile off shore of Lahaina shortly before 2:30 p.m. Saturday when an escort boat's propeller struck him.

According to authorities, the vessel had drifted into a restricted zone and was trying to get out.
