KANEOHE (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 21 year-old man was in critical condition after his motorcycle crashed on the H-3 Freeway Saturday.
According to Honolulu Police, the crash occurred at 12:07 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the H-3, about a quarter of a mile east of the Mokapu Saddle off ramp. Investigators said the man was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control of the motorcycle around a slight bend and went off the roadway into the left shoulder.
The man was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in serious condition, but he was later downgraded to critical condition. According to police, the man suffered a fractured skull, bruised ribs and facial lacerations. He was wearing a helmet.
Police closed the freeway's eastbound lanes between the Kamehameha Highway and Mokapu off ramps after the man's condition was downgraded. Investigators say speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.
