"AAA is expecting a slight increase in the number of travelers who will drive to their vacations this holiday weekend, but airline trips and travel by other means are expected to decline," according to AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Diane Peterson. "Hawaii gas prices are below their all-time Labor Day Weekend records of more than $4.30 a gallon in 2008, but it is the second most expensive Labor Day holiday in the state for pump prices."

Nationally, AAA expects 27.3 million people to take car trips this holiday weekend, a 0.5 percent increased from last year. A total of 31.5 million travelers are expected – a 2.4 percent decrease from the 32.3 million who traveled in 2010.
