HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Gas prices in Hawaii were basically unchanged last week.
Statewide average for regular unleaded is $4.09 a gallon, unchanged from last week according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.
Honolulu's average price also stayed unchanged at $3.98 a gallon. Honolulu's price is four cents lower than a month ago and 63 cents higher than this time last year.
In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.15 a gallon, three cents more than last week, one cent less than last month and 66 cents more than this time last year.
Wailuku's average is $4.35 a gallon, one cent less than last week, three cents less than last month and 52 cents more than on this date last year.
"AAA is expecting a slight increase in the number of travelers who will drive to their vacations this holiday weekend, but airline trips and travel by other means are expected to decline," according to AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Diane Peterson. "Hawaii gas prices are below their all-time Labor Day Weekend records of more than $4.30 a gallon in 2008, but it is the second most expensive Labor Day holiday in the state for pump prices."
Nationally, AAA expects 27.3 million people to take car trips this holiday weekend, a 0.5 percent increased from last year. A total of 31.5 million travelers are expected – a 2.4 percent decrease from the 32.3 million who traveled in 2010.
