HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A woman accused of killing a pedestrian while driving drunk in Nanakuli last October pleaded not guilty at her arraignment at Honolulu Circuit Court Thursday.
An Oahu grand jury indicted Marcela Mercado, 31, on a charge of first-degree negligent homicide. Her trial is now scheduled for October.
Investigators say Mercado's SUV drifted off Farrington Highway near Haleakala Avenue and crashed into a pedestrian who was walking on the sidewalk. Byron Ching, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The defendant is free on $50,000 bail.
