Big Island donkeys getting new home in California

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - We're getting a first at the new home of some wild Big Island donkeys.

The 120 donkeys will be sent to "peaceful valley donkey rescue" in Tehachapi, California later this month.

It's run by an organization.. That cares for neglected or abused donkeys.

The donkeys will be put up for adoption, starting Oct. 29.

The so-called "Kona Nightingales" were brought to Hawaii in the 1800's to work on sugarcane and coffee plantations.

They were turned loose when mechanical technology took over.
