HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Police Department on Wednesday released the mug photo of a man accused of killing a pedestrian while driving drunk in Makaha.

Valentine Mahuiki, 20, took the photo Sunday night when he was booked on suspicion of first-degree negligent homicide, failure to render aid, driving under the influence, and driving without a license. He was later released pending further investigation.

Police say Justin Willingham, 22, was walking on the shoulder of Farrington Highway in Makaha at about 8 PM Sunday, when a car veered to the right and plowed into him. The car continued traveling with the victim stuck in the shattered windshield until it finally came to rest in a ditch.

Shelly Willingham had been trying to locate her son that night and used the GPS feature on his cell phone. She says she learned about his death when the GPS led her to the crash scene.

The victim was an office assistant for RE/MAX in Kapolei. His mother described him as a friendly, giving man who enjoyed going to walks.
