HAPPENING TODAY:

The surf is still big along south-facing shores. Dan Cooke will have an update on how long the powerful waves will be sticking around.

Rescue teams will begin day three of their search for a missing diver off East Oahu. The Coast Guard suspended its efforts last night, but fire department crews will resume their search this morning. Matthew Curley of New York City was taking part in a guided dive when he disappeared on Monday.

The body of a Maui-native who was killed in Afghanistan is returning to Hawaii today. Kraig Vickers was one of 30 Americans killed earlier this month when insurgents shot down a U.S. helicopter. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center.

The USS Ronald Reagan will arrive at Pearl Harbor this morning. The nuclear-powered ship stopped in Hong Kong earlier this month.

SUNRISE SEGMENTS:

ALOHA FESTIVALS OPENING CEREMONY AT 7:10

The opening ceremony for the popular Aloha Festivals is set for tomorrow night at the Royal Hawaiian Center. Members of this year's royal court will also be introduced. The cultural celebration runs through September.

FASTEST TEXTER CONTEST AT 7:50

Are you the fastest texter in Hawaii? You could walk away with a cash prize from a contest at Kapiolani Park. The unique competition is part of this weekend's Okinawan Festival. The Sunrise crew will face off in our own contest this morning.

ALA MOANA FARMERS' MARKET AT 8:10

Shoppers will soon be able to check out a new attraction at Ala Moana Center. The Ala Moana Farmers' Market will feature more than 50 vendors selling produce and other tasty items like sugarcane juice and fried green tomatoes.
