(HawaiiNewsNow) - The Good Table, a benefit for Lanakila Meals on Wheels, Hawaii's largest and only islandwide meal provider to homebound kupuna, returns on Thursday, Oct. 6 (tables are on sale Aug. 15 – Sept. 23).
Back for its third year, The Good Table, presented by Hawaii Government Employees Association and Island Insurance Companies, is a unique synchronized dining event scheduled for Thursday, October 6 at 6 p.m. at more than 50 of Oahu's most popular dining establishments. Select restaurants, ranging from casual eateries to the island's most recognizable fine dining establishments, will serve a special, chef-designed feast for pre-purchased tables at their respective restaurants. Proceeds from the purchased tables directly support Lanakila Meals on Wheels to provide meals and support for Hawaii's elderly in need.
This year, participating locations include Alan Wong's (Chef Alan Wong serves as Honorary Event Chair), 3660 on the Rise, Café Laufer, California Pizza Kitchen, Henry Loui's, Haili's, Ola at Turtle Bay, On On at McCully, Orchids at Halekulani, Roy's Waikiki, Sam Choy's BLC, Vino, and Zippy's (islandwide), among others. Diners purchase tables in pre-designated categories and are notified in late September of their restaurant selection through a drawing, once table sales are closed. For an additional donation, diners also have the option to select a specific restaurant and not be placed in the drawing.
New this year, Lanakila Kitchen will be offering Garden Gourmet Picnic Table Packages that includes everything from the tablecloth and napkins to a keepsake picnic basket.
In 2010, proceeds from pre-purchased tables, sponsorships and direct donations provided more than 20,000 meals to seniors in need. For this year's patrons, the difference between the donation from the table purchase and retail value of meals is tax deductible to the full extent allowable by law.
