No tsunami threat to Hawaii after large earthquake near Indonesia

BANDA SEA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A strong earthquake shook an area off Indonesia, but was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii.

The quake was measured at a magnitude 6.8, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake happened at 8:57 p.m. Hawaii time, about 209 miles south-southwest of Ambon, Indonesia
