HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An Ewa Beach man who repeatedly bashed his wife's head with a hammer after an argument over his extramarital affair was sentenced Monday to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Lincoln Phillips, 38, apologized for his actions during the hearing before Circuit Judge Karen Ahn. Prosecutors say they will ask the Hawaii Paroling Authority to set a minimum term of 75 years before he can be considered for release.

Tara Phillips suffered multiple skull fractures and massive brain injuries on September 3, 2008, and remained hospitalized until her death a year-and-a-half later.

Her husband was convicted of attempted murder because she ultimately died from an illness that wasn't directly linked to the bludgeoning.
