HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – University of Hawai‘i senior linebacker Aaron Brown and junior wide receiver Darius Bright have been suspended for the Warrior's season-opener versus Colorado on September 3. Brown and Bright were arrested on Sunday morning for third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.

"Aaron and Darius used extremely poor judgment and in turn embarrassed the football program and the University" head coach Greg McMackin said. "These are two young men who have never been in trouble with the law before, but became involved in a situation where they did not make the right choices."

The decision was made following a meeting this morning involving coach McMackin, Athletics Director Jim Donovan and the two players. Both Brown and Bright will resume practice with the team tomorrow and a decision will be made early next week as to whether the pair will travel for the team's Sept. 10 game at Washington. The pair will also face team discipline and participate in community service throughout the season.

"We want to make sure our student-athletes live up to the standards of representing their team, their University, and the entire state in the right way," Donovan said. "We'll continue to be collecting more facts throughout the next few days before making a decision on their game status next week."
