Chaminade Swept by Alaska-Anchorage in Three Sets

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Swords ran into a focused Alaska-Anchorage team tonight and fell in three sets to the Seawolves (12-25, 17-25, 14-25).

Junior Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) had 6 kills and 9 digs in defeat.  Sophomore Crystal Powell (Honolulu, HI/Word of Life) added 7 kills. The Swords won the dig battle 28-27.

The Seawolves took control early winning the first set handily 25-12.  The Swords showed life in the second set, hitting .120 on the set, but UAA managed to answer, winning the second set 25-17.

Alaska-Anchorage won the final set 25-14 to earn the victory.

Senior Poerava Gantt (Kapaa, HI/Kapaa) contributed 7 kills and Kristina Donathan led the offense with 16 assists.

Coach Brown commented, "The coaches were nervous in warm-ups as we weren't moving our feet and it showed a little bit tonight. It was a humbling experience…a rude awakening for us, but that's ok.  We will take it into practice on Monday and make some adjustments.

The Swords move to 1-1 after the weekend split.  Chaminade is back in action on September 1st in McCabe Gym.  CUH will face Seattle Pacific at 7:30 PM HT.  Alaska Anchorage improves to 2-2.
