HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawaii is proposing a tuition increase to help offset severe budget cuts.

Right now, an undergrad student at U.H. Manoa is paying $4,200 a semester.

Next year, tuition could increase to $4,332 dollars per semester.

By the Fall of 2016, the proposal is to raise it to $5,688 dollars a semester – nearly $1,500 than what students pay right now.

Linda Johnsrud, U.H. Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, joined us in our studio for an interview regarding this subject.
