HONOLULU (AP) - University of Hawaii officials are proposing tuition hikes.
The university said Friday that under the 5-year plan tuition at UH Manoa would increase $132 per semester in the first year, $120 at UH Hilo and $60 at the community colleges. UH West Oahu tuition would increase $228 per semester in the first year because of start-up costs for the campus.
The plan was presented at a Board of Regents meeting on Maui.
UH President M.R.C. Greenwood says the university system has sustained more than $86 million in cuts to its operating budget over the past two years.
The proposed tuition schedules are to be presented at meetings statewide. The Board of Regents is expected to take action in mid-fall.
