Homeless man killed after struck by van on Nimitz Viaduct

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Nimitz Viaduct is now open after police shut down lanes in the Ewa direction following a fatal accident Wednesday morning.

According to officials, the accident happened just after 2 a.m. when a 50-year-old homeless man was struck by a van.

The driver of the van, a 57-year-old man from East Honolulu, was not injured.

According to police, the driver says the victim was laying in the middle of the road.

Officials are investigating to see if the man was hit by another car prior to being run over by the van.

Police say the driver will not be charged in this case.
