Ex-stockbroker sentenced for fraud

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A former stockbroker who stole more than a million dollars from his wife's family was sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison and nine years probation Monday afternoon.

An IRS criminal investigation showed that 42-year-old Ryan Kimura was working at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter when he embezzled $1.5 million from a company owned by his father-in-law.

Kimura must pay his former firm $1.5 million and the IRS $500,429 in restitution.

Kimura faced up to 63 years in prison.
