Hawaii possible launch location for spacecraft

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii's being eyed as a potential new launch location for the next generation of spacecraft.

California-based SpaceX tells MSNBC that it's considering the Hawaiian islands for a space base as it expands its operations.

However, Hawaii has some competition because Puerto Rico and Florida are in the running.

The private company has reached an agreement in principle with NASA.

They'll launch cargo-carrying rockets to resupply the International Space Station.

The state and NASA recently reached a two-year space exploration agreement earlier this year.

The goal is to test new technologies using Hawaii's moon- and Mars-like terrain.
