No Tsunami after 6.5 Quake in Japan August 19, 2011 at 12:07 AM HST - Updated June 24 at 11:08 PM HONSHU, Japan (HawaiiNewsNow) - A powerful 6.5 magnitude earthquake has rocked Japan's northeast coast. According to the U.S.G.S the quake hit 61 miles southeast of Sendai. It was at a depth of 24 miles. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake struck at 7:36 p.m. Hawaii time and did not generate a tsunami. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says that a destructive Pacific-wide Tsunami is not expected and there is no Tsunami threat to Hawaii.
