Evacuations after brush fire in Haleiwa

HALEIWA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A brush fire in Haleiwa forced a number of evacuations Thursday afternoon. Students at Haleiwa Elementary were evacuated to a nearby park.

Police also evacuated a homeless camp near Kaiaka Beach Park. The brush fire also forced residents from a couple of homes on Smiley place to evacuate.

Honolulu police have reopened Haleiwa Rd. between Waialua Beach Rd. and Kaiaka Beach Park.

HFD was called out a little after 11 a.m. at 66-505 Haleiwa Road which is near Haleiwa Elementary.

No injuries were reported.

Fire crews responded to a brushfire in the same area three days ago. That fire burned 10 acres of farm land.  About five acres were cultivated noni trees and about three-quarters of them were damaged from the fire.
