Grease causes wastewater spill in Wahiawa

HONOLULU HawaiiNewsNow - The City's Department of Environmental Services responded to a sanitary sewer overflow in Wahiawa Wednesday evening.

According to officials, grease clogged an eight-inch pipe on California Avenue causing 1,700 gallons of untreated wastewater out of a manhole and into a storm drain leading to the Wahiawa Botanical Gardens.

The Department of Health was notified.

Officials say the affected area along the road has been cleaned.

Warning signs will be posted within the gardens to notify the public.
