MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - On the day that Kraig Vickers would have turned 37, Maui's mayor has signed a proclamation honoring him.
Vickers was one the 30 American service members killed when a military helicopter was shot down Aug. 6, 2011, in Afghanistan.
Mayor Alan Arakawa's proclamation recognizes Vickers for his 15 years as a bomb disposal technician in the Navy.
Born on Oahu, Vickers grew up on Maui where he attended Maui High School was a star high school football player and wrestler.
Vickers joined the Navy in 1996 and lived in Virginia Beach with his wife Nani, who's expecting their third child.
