AINA HAINA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Honolulu Police officer was injured after his police car was involved in a collision with another vehicle Saturday in East Honolulu.

Authorities said the crash happened at around 6:30 p.m. in Aina Haina. The officer, 33, was heading west on Kalanianaole Highway when an eastbound vehicle driven by a woman, 27, tried to make a left turn onto Waa Street and collided with the police car.

Both vehicles then hit a fence.

Police said the officer was not responding to a call at the time.

According to investigators, the officer suffered a head injury and was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in serious condition. The woman was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon after being treated for leg injuries.

Police shut down two west-bound lanes on Kalanianaole Highway while they investigated the crash.
