Hawaii tattoo creates preseason buzz for NY Jets

NEW YORK (HawaiiNewsNow) - A tattoo is generating a lot of buzz in the football world.

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan showed up to practice with a tribal style tattoo on his right calf.

Ryan got inked while on vacation here in Hawaii in July. Ryan says,"I was on vacation in Hawaii. I've got a couple of tattoos before. I just felt like it. The guy that I went to had given me tattoos before and it's just something that I wanted to do."

He says it means "believe in yourself."

Apparently he went to a shop that was referred to him by former U.H. linebacker and former New York Jet, Brashton Satele.

The Jets turned the tattoo into a media event.

A video appeared on the Jets' Facebook page on Monday morning asking fans to guess what the meaning of the "tat" was. See it here.

Then on Tuesday Ryan revealed the meaning via Facebook. See it here.

Ryan said it had gotten positive reviews from his players, who have told him "that's cool." "And I'm like, yeah, it is," he said, grinning.
