West Hawaii Civic Center turning on solar power

KONA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kona's West Hawaii Civic Center is going solar.

Big Island Mayor Billy Kenoi is flipping the switch to the 250-kilowatt solar photovoltaic project on Tuesday.

The 80,000-square-foot facility will be 100 percent powered by the sun.

Kenoi says the project will save taxpayers $500,000 over the next 20 years.
