Motorcyclist critically injured after crash on H-3

HALAWA VALLEY (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 55 year-old man was in critical condition after a motorcycle accident Sunday that shut down the Halawa-bound lanes of the H-3 Freeway.

Police said the crash happened at 11:34 a.m. about 425 feet outside the Halawa side of the Harano Tunnel.

According to traffic investigators, the man was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle which rear-ended another Harley Davidson that had slowed down to avoid debris on the roadway. Neither man was wearing a helmet, police said.

The injured motorcyclist was taken to the Queen's Medical Center. The other man refused treatment.

Investigators said speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash.

Police shut down the Halawa-bound lanes of the freeway at 12:15 p.m. They were reopened at 3:30 p.m.
