POHAKULOA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Army says it will open part of Pohakuloa Training Area on the Big Island to licensed hunters this weekend.
The Army said they have decided to open the Keamuku Manuever to hunting when training is not scheduled. They made the decision after a meeting with the State Division of Forestry and Wildlife.
Licensed hunters will be allowed access to Pohakuloa Training Area starting at 5 a.m. on Saturday. Hunters are asked to check in at Huluhulu station on the east side of PTA, and at the Kilohana and middle Puuanahulu stations on the west side.
Hunters will receive maps detailing approved access areas, travel routes and hunting areas on the installation at the stations.
Big Island hunters are being encouraged to monitor the PTA Hunter's Hotline at 969-3474 for specific information.
