HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man accused of stabbing a woman in Kalihi after a quarrel over kitchen utensils has been found mentally fit to stand trial.
Rowan Sam, 27, is charged with second-degree attempted murder. If convicted, he faces life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Investigators say Sam was arguing with his 22-year-old sister over utensils, when she went to her room. He allegedly followed her and stabbed her.
Family members intervened and held the suspect until police arrived.
Circuit Judge Richard Perkins on Wednesday declared the defendant ready to proceed after receiving reports from three mental health experts who examined him. Trial has been set for September.
