HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two men accused of trying to steal mail from homes in Mililani are scheduled to be sentenced in October after giving up their right to a trial Tuesday.

Jin Young Pummell, 21, of Salt Lake and Brian Francisco, 27, of Ewa Beach each pleaded no contest to five counts of identity theft, five counts of theft and two drug offenses without the benefit of a plea deal with prosecutors.

Francisco also pleaded no contest to one count of driving with a suspended license.

Investigators say the two were thwarted by sharp-eyed residents, who watched them stealing mail from their mailboxes and called police. Officers arrested the suspects on Meheula Parkway.

Most, if not all, of the stolen mail was recovered.

Sentencing is set for October 5th.
